DESCRIPTION:-------- *MAY IS ASTHMA AWARENESS MONTH* -------------------------------------\n \n Each May\, thousands of organizations across the U.S. join together for Asthma \n Awareness Month in an effort to increase public awareness about the \n nation’s asthma epidemic and to take action to get asthma under control in \n communities nationwide. Asthma affects almost 25 million people of all ages \n and races in the U.S.\, and although asthma is widespread\, public awareness of \n common asthma triggers and effective asthma management strategies remains \n limited.\n \n Join the U.S. EPA in celebrating Asthma Awareness Month by planning \n activities to educate members of your community about comprehensive asthma \n management. Here are some ways you can get involved:\n \n * Download EPA’s Asthma Awareness Month Event Planning Kit [1] \, which\n features new ideas for outreach and awareness activities\, tips for working\n with the media\, success stories\, and much more.\n \n * Already have an event planned? Publicize it on the\n AsthmaCommunityNetwork.org Events Calendar [2]. Make sure to designate it\n as an “Asthma Awareness Month” event so others can easily recognize\n that your event is part of this national effort. If you have multiple\n events planned for the month\, make sure to add each event separately to\n maximize your marketing impact. You’ll also be able to track how many\n people RSVP for each event.\n \n * After your event takes place\, let other AsthmaCommunityNetwork.org members\n know how it went by writing a blog post [3]. This is a quick\, easy way to\n share your successes with the community. You can even upload pictures from\n your events! Your stories can also help others in planning their own\n successful events.\n \n For more information about Asthma Awareness Month\, visit EPA’s website [4].\n \n \n [1] http://www.asthmacommunitynetwork.org/node/5751\n [2] http://www.asthmacommunitynetwork.org/events\n [3] http://www.asthmacommunitynetwork.org/interact/blog\n [4] http://epa.gov/asthma/awareness.html

DESCRIPTION:Asthma is a serious\, costly\, but controllable chronic disease. In 2007\, the \n Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America named Atlanta the Asthma Capital as \n it earned its worst score from the city's high asthma death rate\, high pollen \n levels\, and severe air pollution. Asthma still remains a major problem in \n Fulton County. According to the American Lung Association\, 24\,657 children \n and nearly 55\,000 adults suffer from asthma in Fulton County. In an effort to \n combat this problem\, the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness\, \n Division of Health Promotion\, is launching the *Fulton Asthma Improvement and \n Reduction (FAIR)* program to focus on the state of asthma in Fulton County. \n The FAIR kick off panel discussion will raise awareness about asthma and \n allow participants to share strategies for improving asthma care throughout \n Fulton County. This is one of the several paramount events in Fulton County \n aimed at improving policies and reducing the health disparities associated \n with asthma.\n \n Please save the date to join us in the FAIR kick off entitled " Asthma \n Awareness: Putting the Pieces Together." We are excited to identify and bring \n together major stakeholders\, community leaders\, local hospitals\, asthma \n practitioners\, medical experts\, public policy makers\, and grassroots \n organizations to share their experience with the current state of asthma care \n and control and to create healthy environments and achieve asthma control \n throughout the Fulton County. The proposed discussion will provide an \n opportunity to share perspectives on some of the most challenging issues \n surrounding asthma and identify areas that would be best addressed through a \n unified\, cooperative and a collaborative effort.\n \n Feel free to pass this information among your friends and colleagues. We hope \n that you will join us once again your schedule permitting to this important \n invitation. More information and an agenda will be sent out in the coming \n weeks.\n \n RSVP: Seating is limited. Click the link below to register. Registration \n deadline April 23\, 2012. Lunch will be served.\n \n Thank You. \n \n \n \n Sincerely\, \n \n \n \n \n \n Fulton County Department of Health & Wellness \n \n \n Division of Health Promotion \n \n \n 404-613-3497
