South Texas Asthma Coalition Commemoration
Councilwoman Ana Sandoval will commemorate the South Texas Asthma Coalition - a community-based organization. At the event, there is going to be a discussion on how San Antonio can work together to secure healthier air. Asthma is a chronic disease in which someone's airways become inflamed and making it difficult to breath. Recent statistics show that San Antonio hospitalizes children under the age of 17 at a rate that is nearly double the state average.
A 2016 study also estimated current levels of air pollution result in an average of 52 preventable deaths per year in Bexar County. South Texas Asthma Coalition is working with Metro Health to create an at-home education program. This step will allow families to learn more about how to manage their child's asthma and discover new resources.
