Pennsylvania Department of Health Asthma Control Program

Through a collaboration of the Pennsylvania Department of Health and stakeholders representing organizations and agencies with a common interest in asthma control and representing a diversity of asthma expertise, improve the health status and quality of life of all Pennsylvania residents affected by asthma by:

1. Establishing a surveillance system for asthma in Pennsylvania.  
2. Reducing the environmental causes and triggers of asthma and reducing the effects of occupation/work related asthma.  
3. Making the general public more aware of asthma symptoms, impacts, and treatments and focusing on schools and community resources to educate patients on asthma self-management. 
4. Increasing healthcare provider use of evidence-based, national asthma treatment guidelines. 
5. Reducing the disproportionately high asthma burden seen in racial and ethnic minorities and among other underserved and vulnerable populations in Pennsylvania. 
6. Changing public policy to improve asthma care.
