The Pro Active Families Against Asthma (ProFAA) program is an in-home based asthma education program for families of children ages 0-5 who have asthma or asthma-like signs and symptoms. As part of the program, ProFAA staff conduct two to three sessions per family, including an environmental home assessment for potential asthma triggers.
ProFAA asthma educators also provide trainings for childcare providers and act as a liaison between families and primary care providers, mitigating cultural and language barriers and ensuring that prescribed treatment regimens have been understood and are being followed.
The scope of the ProFAA program also includes CME (Continuing Medical Education credits) presentations for primary care providers on asthma management, diagnosis, treatment.
Main program outcomes include reducing Emergency Room utilization due to asthma, decreasing frequency of asthma symptoms, securing a written asthma action plan for enrolled clients, increasing parental knowledge and skills regarding asthma and asthma mangement.
