May is Asthma Awareness Month and the Jerome Alston Memorial Foundation is joining with thousands of organizations to increase public awareness of the asthma epidemic. This cause is near and dear to my heart because I lost my dad in December 2012 to asthma related complications. We are raising awareness and funds to help get this epidemic under control. This event will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Mt Trashmore and will begin at 8:30 am. Asthma affects more than 25 million people of all ages and races. And although it is a widespread disease, public awareness of common asthma triggers as well as effective asthma management strategies remain limited.

Genesis TPM’s has added to our Asthma Control Test and Asthma Peak Flow Test a COPD Control Test. This COPD Control Test is a short, simple questionnaire which is quick and easy for patients or physician to complete. It provides a framework for physician’s to discuss with their COPD patients and should enable the care giver and patient to gain a common understanding and grading of the impact of the disease on their life. It should also help the care giver to identify where COPD has the greatest effect on the patient’s health and daily life. As a result the care giver may be better informed when discussing and making management decisions with their patients and be able to ensure that his or her health status is as good as it can be.
