The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services online Health Navigation course is designed for individuals working in communities who connect people to health services. The training is designed for CHWs, Health Navigators, social workers and other health care professionals. The course was developed to offer materials in a practical and accessible manner. Online training incorporates organizational, documentation, assessment and service-coordination skills.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-funded Diabetes Training and Technical Assistance Center provides courses in community health work that are designed to meet the needs of the diabetes prevention and control workforce. Training topics include: the value in creating public-private partnerships; comprehensive models and approaches to worksite health promotion; and the role of non-traditional external partnerships, policies, practices and programs. Training courses consist of multiple modules and readings designed to provide applicable health information within a diabetes-specific context.

The Michigan Public Health Training Center Course, “CHWs and Nurses: Roles and Relationships for Population Health Improvement,” provides participants with certification and continuing education credits through the Michigan Public Health Training Center. The courses target public health and community health practitioners—nurses, community health workers, health educators, social workers, physicians; students in allied health; and those interested in population health services. Topics include: CHW contributions to improving public health, current issues in nursing/CHW services, and future initiatives in improving partnerships.
