Who Should Attend?

  • Experienced community health workers (CHWs), including patient liaisons, health advocates and educators
  • CHWs who are certified or working towards certification
  • CHWs who have experience performing home visits or who plan to perform home visits

  • A basic understanding of asthma, inclduing medication use and trigger reduction

The Outreach Worker Training Institute (OWTI) of the Central Massachusetts Area Health Education Center, Inc. (CM AHEC) is a career-focused, college supported educational pipeline for public health professionals known as Community Health Workers (CHWs) as well as the supervisors of CHWs in health and social services. We start an on-line registration for a free 80-Hour training course for Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Worcester County. The project is funded by the Fairlawn Foundation.

Aimed at promoting excellence in asthma education, the National Asthma Educator Certification Board offers certifications and recertifications for Asthma Educators. The Board offers 7-year certifications through an examination process and 5-year recertifications by continuing education credit.
