The American Lung Association issue brief, "Telehealth & Implications for Asthma Care Coverage in Medicaid," explores the regulations and policies that govern the use of telehealth in Medicaid programs. Access the issue brief to learn about how those policies have changed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the experiences of state asthma programs applying telehealth to care for individuals with asthma, and opportunities for state asthma programs to collaborate with their respective Medicaid partners regarding telehealth and asthma coverage.

A half-day event March 31 from 11:30 AM – 3:30 PM ET, the 2021 Asthma Convening will explore best practices and emerging issues in comprehensive asthma programming as well as policy considerations for asthma advocates in 2021 and beyond. This virtual event is an opportunity to learn more about GHHI's National Initiative for Asthma Reimbursement, network with asthma programs operating across the country, and explore opportunities to take your program to the next level.

In any given classroom, at least two or three students are likely to have asthma. Clearing the Air: An Asthma Toolkit for Healthy Schools is a new toolkit containing sample policy language, best practices, and curated resources & tools to help schools create an asthma-friendly environment. This is a project of the MA Asthma Action Partnership, Health Resources in Action, and the MA DPH’s Asthma Prevention and Control Program.

Three NHLBI guidelines-based e-versions are available: adult, student and ages 0-4 years old.

Building Systems to Sustain Home-Based Asthma Services is a new eLearning and technical assistance platform designed to equip staff in public health agencies, state asthma-control programs, state Medicaid agencies, and other housing and health organizations with information about how to build the systems, infrastructure, and financing to put home-based asthma services in place in their own states, communities, or regions.

HEAL, Phase II built upon the lessons learned from the Head-off Environmental Asthma in Louisiana (HEAL) project, a post-Katrina research initiative that studied the effects of mold and other indoor allergens on children with moderate to severe asthma.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) has created a Spanish-language version of our Wee Breathers™ program, which is designed to educate families and young children about asthma care and prevention. Wee Breathers™ is a flexible and interactive program used by asthma educators to families of pre-school-age children. The program curriculum consists of seven one-hour lessons, an instructor’s guide and two checklists for identifying asthma triggers in the home and in child care centers. Program handout materials are easy-to-read (6th grade reading level or lower) and are now available in Spanish. Instructors for this program should be a Certified Asthma Educator (AE-C), or other health professional experienced with pediatric asthma management. Wee Breathers™ in Spanish is made possible by a cooperative agreement between AAFA and the National Asthma Control Program of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The King County Asthma Program in Seattle, Washington, developed a community health worker (CHW) home visit program (Healthy Homes) and demonstrated its effectiveness. They designed a streamlined version of the program that was simpler and cost less to implement to facilitate broad dissemination and adoption. Here they reported on the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and ROI of a streamlined Healthy Homes program.
