The CommunityCARE Quality Unit is a quality improvement unit for Louisiana Medicaid. We perform quality improvement projects for different disease processes. Asthma is one of out largest projects. We have completed one pilot project involving recipient teaching and are involved in a second pilot project involving provider education. Our asthma goals are to decrease ER visits, IP vists, and rescue medicine fills and to increase controller medications, AAP''s and peak flow meter use. We monitor data by paid claims and chart audits. We teach best practice models and use the NHLBI guidelines.
