UAB Pediatric Asthma Program at The Children's Hospital of Alabama (aka Asthma Clinic) is staffed by a physician, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and a social worker all dedicated to providing excellent medical care and asthma self-management education for this high risk population.

Mission Statement: To improve the quality of asthma education, prevention, management and services in Trempealeau County.

Our comprehensive allergy & asthma program provides allergy testing, immunotherapy, spirometry testing & bronchodilator treatments. Our program emphasizes education regarding these chronic medical conditions and coping strategies for our patients and their families. This year, to increase the awareness to asthma & allergies in our community, we will conduct two free public events on May 1 and May 22, 2010, providing screening spirometry testing, handouts, fliers, brochures & literature on asthma and allergies. The events will be broadcasted on the local radio stations and posted in the local newspaper.

Accountable Communities: Healthy Together - Asthma (ACHT-A) is a collaborative between the Georgia State University Institute of Public Health, Southside Medical Center, and the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning: Bright from the Start. The purpose of ACHT-A is to decrease the burden and experience of adverse effects associated with childhood asthma within NPU-V by the development of a program to address the multiple modalities of educational, medical, and environmental interventions for the management and control of asthma and its symptoms.

The goal of Healthy Homes is to assist Cowlitz County residents in learning about common health risks in the home associated with asthma, allergies, and other breathing problems. Trained volunteers work with the resident, to perform an in-home assessment that locates common triggers known to aggravate breathing conditions. Some examples include mold and mildew, dust mites, pet dander, and secondhand smoke. Then, the volunteer and resident develop a simple action plan that includes low or no-cost ways in which to make the suggested improvements.
