Dr. Purvi Parikh is an adult and pediatric allergist and immunologist. She is currently on faculty as Clinical Instructor of Medicine and Pediatrics at New York University School of Medicine. She completed her fellowship training in allergy and immunology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s Montefiore Medical Center. Prior to that, she completed her residency at The Cleveland Clinical Foundation in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Parikh is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Allergy and Immunology.

Dr. Parikh is passionate about health policy and sits on the health and public policy committee for the American College of Physicians. She is also the Allergy and Asthma Network’s national media spokesperson and has made numerous press and TV appearances on our behalf.

With the introduction of new therapies for asthma like biologics, achieving disease remission has become a new goal of treatment and classifying asthma control is in transition. In December 2023, the Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology published a consensus statement between the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and American Thoracic Society to update the definition of clinical remission in asthma. Michael S. Blaiss, MD, is a clinical professor of pediatrics at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia, and allergist at Good Samaritan Health Center of Gwinnett in Norcross, Georgia.  He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences and did pediatrics at University of Tennessee/Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis and completed a fellowship in allergy/immunology at Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He is past president of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. He served as treasurer of the American Board of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, a past member of the Board of Directors of the World Allergy Organization and past president of the Tennessee and Louisiana Societies of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. He was Executive Medical Director of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. Dr. Blaiss has published about 200 scientific peer-reviewed articles and presented at more than 500 meetings and seminars throughout the world.

I have been blessed to have a career spanning over 21 years of experience on the administrative and clinical side of medicine working in adult, neonatal, and pediatric critical care, transport, DME, pulmonary function testing, and ambulatory care medicine. Two years ago, I was fortunate to be offered the opportunity to join the MaineHealth Pen Bay Ambulatory Care Practices working with the Maine Partners for Health in developing a Grant Funded Asthma Program. In addition to working at Pen Bay, I work at MaineHealth Lincoln Health Critical Care Hospital and Central Maine Medical Center as a Respiratory Care Practitioner where I provide both clinical and diagnostic services for patients of all ages. I have had the privilege of being an instructor at the RN Critical Care, High Acuity,  Respiratory Medication, COPD and Oxygen Equipment courses for Central Maine Medical Center.

Bio

Dr. Davis received his BS in Biomedical Science from Lynchburg College in 2008 and his PhD in Physiology and Biophysics with a focus in Pulmonary Medicine from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2017. He has been a licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist since 2005. 

Since 2007, Dr. Davis has studied airway pH homeostasis and non-invasive respiratory biomarkers. He has developed and optimized several breath biomarker collection devices, techniques, and assays. His graduate work focused on airway epithelial function and signaling, specifically on airway-derived Tissue Factor and its role in local wound healing. He then joined the faculty of Virginia Commonwealth University where he studied treatment options for rare airway diseases such as Plastic Bronchitis and the effects of airway pH imbalances.

His research at IU is focused on airway pH regulation, airway disease pathophysiology and therapeutics, and novel exhaled biomarkers. He also provides respiratory and pulmonary medical training and service in Liberia, West Africa. He is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Herman B. Wells Center for Pediatric Research and at the IU School of Medicine Division of Pediatric Pulmonology, Allergy, and Sleep Medicine. He serves as the Chair of Exhaled Breath Aerosols and Condensate for the International Association of Breath Research.
