Air cleaners with HEPA filters are very effective at reducing particulates and creating cleaner indoor air during wildfire smoke events. Yet, they are often prohibitively expensive for low-income families with asthma. And, even when asthma programs can provide air cleaners and replacement filters to their clients, it can be difficult to navigate the selection to ensure that you’re providing safe and effective air cleaners. RAMP developed materials to help address these challenges.

EPA has developed a national-scale, multisector report that quantifies projected health effects to children from climate change, including those related to asthma. The report considers such factors as extreme heat, air quality, changing seasons, flooding, and infectious diseases. Where possible, the analyses consider the extent to which these risks disproportionately fall on children from overburdened populations.
